Make a lifestyle change, not a diet change

The word Lifestyle written outWhile we step off into 2021, we have found that many people have already broken their New Year’s resolution of losing weight. Why does this happen to so many people?

They make a diet change and not a lifestyle change. They most often make sweeping changes – eliminating sweets, carbs, late-night snacks, eating more than one serving at each meal, and exercising for 30 minutes daily.

Instead of big diet changes, let’s talk about how small lifestyle changes can lead to long term lifestyle success:

  • Drink an 8-ounce glass of water before meals, and work up to consuming 64 ounces daily
  • Stop eating after 8 pm
  • Eat more protein
  • Chew your food more and eat slower
  • Use a smaller plate for unhealthy foods
  • Keep sweets and high-calorie snacks out of sight
  • Fiber-rich foods can make you feel fuller
  • Take smaller portions
  • Improve your sleep habits
  • Reduce your stress
  • Eat without electronic interferences
  • Develop a doable exercise plan that aligns with your health
  • As much as possible establish a regular dining schedule

Just making a dieting change or following a fad type diet usually does not give our clients the long-term results they are looking for. It’s when they incorporate small changes, like the ones above, that they can consistently uphold, do they see the best long term results.
